Melina Almodovar Biography

The Miami New Times calls Melina Almodovar: “A woman on fire as she struts, sings and shakes her body. In the dictionary her picture is next to the word ‘hot. DUO Magazine says: “And all those rumors that the salsa style is a dying form? Definitely not. With Melina around it will live forever.”Melina is also known as “La Muñeca De La Salsa” for her upbeat, charming and caring manner towards her fans, has established herself in the past ten years as a champion for Salsa music and all it stands for: Latin culture, passion, celebration, dance and happiness. It is her main goal in her musical career to bring Salsa to the highest level of expression, “Salsa saved my life, so I owe it mine. It gives me life and joy everyday what more could one person ask for? I consider it my duty as an artist to hold its name up high whenever I perform and to present in a positive light to people all over the world the joys of our Latin culture.”Melina’s passion for music lives in her genes. She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico into a very artistic family who gave her the tools to create her own path and become the great artist she is today.

After Melina’s father passed away, a bolero singer, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee from Puerto Rico when she was only 12 years old. This was a cultural shock for her; however, she found new opportunities to grow as an artist. When she was 16 years old Melina didn’t miss a chance to get in the spotlight. She was playing all over Memphis with all type of bands from Rock to Blues to Jazz to Gospel.In 1998 Melina and a group of Memphis musician established Orquesta Caliente the first Salsa Band to come out of Memphis, Tennessee thus ingniting her love of Salsa music and begining an amazing run in popularity as they created a one band salsa scene and where nominated in 2001 for best local band by the local GRAMMY chapter in Memphis.

She has also performed in many festivals and clubs in Miami. Her main stage has been las Fiestas Patronales Broward County Florida for four consecutive years Performing with Puerto Rican Power, Larry Harlow, Mario Ortiz All Starz, Andy Montañez, Tito Allen, NG2, Anthony Cruz, Tito Puente Jr., Sal Cuevas, Chino Nuñez, Ismael Miranda, Ramiro Malagon, La Sonora Ponceña and Gilberto Santarosa among others.
